For this new release, the Madeufs have teamed up with Sigiswald Kuijken’s magnificent La Petite Bande to present a set of Georg Philipp Telemann’s concertos in the historical performance style for which they are known: utilizing natural trumpets and horns, and bringing the pieces back to their original purpose of being performed as chamber works. Despite the identical key of D major, the pieces recorded here contain substantial differences between them, and Telemann’s highly varied instrumental scoring shows his continuing search for innovation- quite a different picture than what is usually represented.
