Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 1, 2 And 3
Label: ARTHAUS Catalog: 102175 Format: BAVARIAN RADIO SYMPHONY JANSONSThis new release featuring Beethoven's symphonies 1, 2, and 3 is an individual release from the previously released complete series of Mariss Jansons conducting the symphonies of Beethoven. The first three symphonies from master composer Ludwig van Beethoven can bee seen as experiments in the “heroic” style. His first symphony, composed in 1800, displays a firmness of musical tone, and a replacement of the flowing, dance-like melodic lines in favor of a more concrete structure. The second symphony, written between 1801 and 1802, features a scherzo instead of the standard minuet, giving the work a greater energy. The most famous of the first three symphonies is the third, also known as the “Eroica” symphony. Written in 1805 it is twice the length of any of Haydn’s symphonies, and remains one of Beethoven’s most performed orchestral works. As a special feature on this release, a 45 minute clip of legendary conductor Mariss Jansons rehearsing these works is included. Price: $38.98 |
