In addition to exploring the start of this controversial genre, the teacher-student relationship of Henry Cowell and John Cage is examined. Especially noticeable among these piano works is the common use of prepared piano, as well as the theme of Irish subject matter. The fourteen tracks have been ordered in such a way that every other piece belongs to Cage, allowing the listener to fully experience all of the similarities and differences that these pieces demonstrate, and allowing the album theme of “conversation” to come through.
