Chopin’s writing is both virtuosic and dramatic. Both of these elements are brilliantly demonstrated on this collection from pianist Irina Chukovskaya. Different sides of Chopin’s music are represented in this programme. The Variations brilliantes and Bolero, Op. 19 are early works, and require grace and impeccable lustre. The laterworks require a more lyrical approach, such as the Ballade No. 4 or the Waltz in C sharp minor. “Irina Chukovskaya is a brightly gifted pianist.
