Deutsche Grammophon proudly presents 42 of its greatest ever recordings for violin, from its matchless catalogue of the finest violinists of the last 75 years. Fritz Kreisler began it all for the company by recording a series of his own compositions and arrangements. 31 violinists grace 111 The Violin, with recordings from the early 1900s to 2012. This 42CD collection presents a huge range of repertoire, from seventeenth-century Italian violin music, through all the great concertos and many sonatas to the masterworks of the twentieth century. The set is accompanied by a 132-page booklet in colour with new liner notes and over 30 photos. 31 great violinists appear in Deutsche Grammophon’s 111 THE VIOLIN limited-edition box-set, from Salvatore Accardo to Pinchas Zukerman, from Fritz Kreisler at the beginning of the twentieth century to Lisa Batiashvili at the beginning of the twenty-first. In between come names like Jascha Heifetz, David Oistrakh, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Ruggiero Ricci, Nathan Milstein, Henryk Szeryng, Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman, Gidon Kremer, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Shlomo Mintz, Gil Shaham, David Garrett, Hilary Hahn, and Daniel Hope; the Early Music virtuosi Eduard Melkus, Reinhard Goebel, Simjon Standage and Giuliano Carmignano are also included. A huge range of repertoire if on offer, from seventeenth-century Italian violin music, through all the great concertos and many sonatas to the masterworks of the twentieth century (see list attached). With a 132-page booklet in colour, new liner notes and over 30 photos.
