Rubaiyat (2015) is based on the writing of Omar Khayyam (1048-1131). The song cycle was composed for Gerald Finley, who sings in this recording. Based on texts by Lorca, Balada (2014) is a large-scale piece for orchestra, mixed-choir, and solo tenor. Rautavaara began writing his Cantos in the 1960s, and Into the Heart of Light is his latest installment in the series. The Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by John Storgards, has already released multiple award-winning recordings, and does an outstanding job of interpreting the works on this album.
