CHOIR OF GONVILLE & CAIUS COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE WILLIAMSON WEBBER

The Chapel of St. Stephen was begun by Edward I before being transformed into a college by Edward III. The musical tradition of this place was maintained for two hundred years before the college was dissolved in 1548, at which time the building became the meeting place for the House of Commons. The tracks on this new release reflect upon the musical life of this building during the final years of the college under the rule of Henry VIII. This program explores the chapel singing practices, and the largely unknown organ music of the pre-reformation period. These historical works are performed by the Choir of Gonville & Caius College Cambridge, directed by Godffrey Webber, with organ performance by Magnus Williamson.
