Karajan's "Gotterdammerung", like the rest of his Ring cycle, has withstood the test of time. Roughly contemporaneous with the better known Decca set conducted by the esteemed Solti, it is, in many respects, actually better. Not in singers, necessarily, although even there it has its' considerable strengths, not even in interpretation, Karajan having a somewhat single-minded view of the vast musical landscape (although Solti is every bit as single-minded in his view), and not in the playing by the Berlin Philharmonic (what an embarrassment of riches having to choose between it and the Vienna Philharmonic).
