Invitation 2. The Shadow of Your Smile 3. Blues for B.B. (feat. Peter Bernstein) 4. Blondie's Waltz 5. You'll Never Know What You Mean to Me 6. Darn That Dream 7. Sonny's Playground 8. These Foolish Things 9. Time to Get Down The quartet performs four classic ballads, an original blues, an original waltz, and three other uptempo original numbers. Coleman, dynamically using his very personal soft tone, has always been a consummate jazz sax balladeer as shown on his forays into a dazzling "Darn That Dream", a gorgeous "These Foolish Things" by the Coleman-LeDonne duo, a 12 minute quartet romp thru "Invitation", and a sparkling "The Shadow Of Your Smile" with outstanding facile support from LeDonne. "Blues for B.B." has powerful solos from Coleman, guest guitarist Bernstein, and Ledonne, pushed along by Coleman, Jr. who has a superb solo on the atmospheric "Blondie's Waltz". At age 81, George Coleman plays on this recording with power, fire, great inventiveness and his unique tone, with great support from his rhythm section, especially LeDonne. "A Master Speaks", indeed! Highly Recommended. Five ENJOYABLE Stars Price: $22.98 |
