This performance is now being release by CPO.; Active during the transition between the baroque and classical eras, Homilius is viewed as one of the most noteworthy church composers of that time. His compositions during his life were extremely popular, and manuscript scores for this piece in particular are extant exclusively in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Library.; Homilius’ Messiah is a passion oratorio which was used in many Protestant churches across Germany during the latter part of the eighteenth century.
