To celebrate Plácido Domingo’s 75th birthday on January 21st, 2016, Sony Classical is releasing the anniversary album The Best of Plácido Domingo. Specially selected from the great Spanish singer’s vast discography of over 200 recordings, this x4-CD set spans almost half a century in the musical life of a prodigiously talented, much-loved and multi-Grammy® Award-winning artist, who first launched his stage career as a baritone in his parents’ zarzuela company in Mexico in 1957, made his operatic debut as a tenor in 1961, shot to international fame as a member of the chart-topping Three Tenors in 1990 and is still adding new roles to his repertoire after reverting to his baritone range in 2009, while also maintaining busy second and third careers as a conductor and opera company administrator. Equally at home in several languages and all sorts of musical styles, Domingo is heard here in a wide-ranging repertoire encompassing opera, musicals, folk, pop and crossover songs, Christmas and other sacred music, as well as a selection of popular Spanish and Latin American tunes recalling the singer’s early days in Spain and Mexico.
