For their debut release, the Janaki Trio presents works from Krzysztof Penderecki and Jason Barabba in an exhilarating live performance recorded at Zipper Hall. Mastered by Steve Hoffman, this recording “combines life-like sound with hair raising, inspired performances.” Penderecki’s string trio is a short, two-movement work that shows the composer in a more neo-romantic light, diverging from his more violent and cacophonous earlier works. Barabba gives us a four-movement string trio that at times echoes Bartók.
