Weigl: Piano Concerto For The Left Hand In E-flat
Label: CAP Catalog: C5232 Format: KRUMPOCK FRUHWIRTH NORTH GERMAN PHILHARMONIC, FLORIAN KRUMPOCKBoth the music and the figure of Karl Ignaz Weigl (1881-1949) remain largely unknown to most listeners. Before fleeing to America from Austria in 1938, Weigl, who’d studied composition privately with Alexander Zemlinsky, was an established figure in the musical landscape of Vienna. On commission from one-armed pianist Paul Wittgenstein, Weigl composed a piano concerto for the left-hand that Wittgenstein never performed. Its belated premiere came in 2002, played then as here, by Florian Krumpöck, Weigl later composed a violin concerto, played here by David Frühwirth. Price: $25.98 |
