Grieg: The Violin Sonatas, Opp. 18, 13 & 45
Label: AEVEA Catalog: AE15010 Format: CAMMARANO DELJAVANThe 3 Violin Sonatas by Edvard Grieg feature a mixture of the 19th c. Austro-Germanic tradition with the Nordic folk leanings of Norway’s greatest composer. Grieg’s experiences at the Leipzig Conservatory, where the strong influence of Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann was keenly felt, and the trips to Italy, especially Rome, where he met Franz Liszt, contributed greatly to the formation of the his style. Similarly, and also of crucial importance were the years spent in Copenhagen where he completed his studies under the guidance of the Danish composer Niels W. Gade. Edvard Grieg’s complete Sonatas for violin and piano feature the well-matched duo of OnClassical/Ævea violinist Daniela Cammarano and pianist Alessandro Deljavan, who have previously recorded the works by Johannes Brahms and Anton Rubinstein.
