The esteemed Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led by their Principal Associate Conductor Grzegorz Nowak offer recent recordings celebrating Modest Mussorgsky’s greatest orchestral masterworks: Pictures at an Exhibition, Night on the Bare Mountain and orchestral excerpts from the operas Kovanshchina and Sorochinsky Fair. The Pictures at an Exhibition heard here highlights Sergei Gorchakov’s orchestration of the original solo piano score, in an arguably darker and more Russian sounding tone than the far more often performed orchestration realized by Maurice Ravel. Mr. Nowak has led the RPO on tours to Switzerland, Turkey and Armenia, as well as in numerous concerts throughout the UK. Formed in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has enjoyed more than sixty-five years of success, giving first-class performances of a wide range of musical repertoire all over the world with artists of the highest caliber.
