Maestro - Vladimir Spivakov

This 5-CD Melodiya set, issued in celebration of Vladimir Spivakov’s 70th birthday features Mr. Spivakov as both a violinist and conductor on recordings made between 1970-89. This period of performing activity and the creation of the Moscow Virtuosi was a bright phase in the maestro’s career. The chamber pieces find Mr. Spivakov in the company of pianists Viktoria Postnikova and Boris Bekhterev. Mr. Spivakov’s earlier unreleased concert recordings at the 4th Int’l Tchaikovsky Competition of 1970, where he was awarded the second prize and a silver medal, are of particular interest.
