Born in 1930 in Thessaloniki, Greece, Andreas Makris fused musical traditions from East and West, Classical Antiquity and the New World. Now, the world-famous London Symphony Orchestra and Serbian-born conductor Predrag Gosta have recorded for the first time, in the manner these works deserve, his most exciting and significant orchestral compositions. Andreas Makris’ lifetime output consists of around one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, various types of chamber ensembles, and solo instruments, most of them written in the US where he was both violinist and Composer-in-Residence for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. He settled in Silver Springs, Maryland, where he died February 3, 2005. This exclusive world premiere recording is being published in the year that celebrates his 85th birthday and commemorates the 10th anniversary of his death.
