In 2003 and 2004 the British Film Institute (BFI) released in two volumes Charlie Chaplin’s twelve comedy shorts, created by him at the contractual rate of one a month across 1916–17. This CD is composer Carl Davis’s choice of music, composed by him for Chaplin’s Mutuals, as they came to be known, after the company that produced them. Mr. Davis himself conducts the City of Prague Philharmonic, with the additional participation of the Wihan Quartet, a native Cezch ensemble of thirty years standing described by Int’l Record Review as “one of the best quartets in the world today.”
