Franz Anton Hoffmeister (1754-1812) was long regarded (without closer examination) as a mass producer of market-tailored serenade music who distinguished himself much more in his capacity as a music publisher than as a composer in his own right, despite contemporary opinions by Mozart and Haydn, who often entrusted him with arrangements of their own works. Hoffmeister’s serenades and divertimentos are marked by high compositional mastery and a great wealth of imagination. One special treat surely comes in the form of the rediscovered treasure Ankunfts- und Abschieds-Parthia.
