This exciting anniversary edition covers 40 years of the world famous virtuoso violinist Itzhak Perlman’s extraordinary musical career, from a 1971 performance of Camille Saint-Saëns: Introduction et Rondo capriccioso, Op.28 to a recent 2010 Tel Aviv concert that features Mr. Perlman as the conductor of an all-Beethoven program where one of the soloists to be heard in the composer’s Triple Concerto, op. 56 is pianist Navah Perlman, daughter of the illustrious violinist. Among the many other highlights to be seen on this 4DVD set is a 1979 Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, op. 35 with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, a 1981 performance of the demanding Elgar Violin Concerto, op. 61 with the late Sir Charles Mackerras conducting the Sadler’s Wells Orchestra, and a 1996 concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Israel Philharmonic that, in addition to Mr. Perlman’s presence, hosts his long-time musical compatriots Daniel Barenboim and Pinchas Zukerman, among other distinguished artists.
