Though hardly remembered today, the remarkable Hungarian-born pianist Lili Kraus (1905–1986) studied with Kodály and Bartók in Budapest and with Eduard Steuermann and Artur Schnabel in Vienna. She was best known as a Mozart player – one season in New York she performed all the piano concertos, the next season she presented all the sonatas and recorded them for American Columbia.
