In 1938, Tintner left Austria and moved to New Zealand, where he became a citizen in 1946. In 1954, he was named resident conductor of the National Opera of Australia, and he is credited with pioneering televised opera in Australia. This release from Testament features a previously unpublished BBC broadcast from June 1970 of Bruckner’s Symphony No.5.
