Bruckner: Symphony No.5 - Broadcast June 1970 – Previously Unpublished

Once described as "one of the greatest living Bruckner conductors," Georg Tintner studied conducting with Felix Weingartner at the Vienna State Academy. In 1938, Tintner left Austria and moved to New Zealand, where he became a citizen in 1946. In 1954, he was named resident conductor of the National Opera of Australia, and he is credited with pioneering televised opera in Australia. This release from Testament features a previously unpublished BBC broadcast from June 1970 of Bruckner’s Symphony No.5. Surprisingly, this was his first performance of the work, and it was also the LSO’s first performance of its original unedited score.
