Seiji Ozawa was just at the start of his nearly thirty-year tenure as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1973 when Deutsche Grammophon captured the young conductor’s fresh take on Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, op. 14, in multi-channel sound. New developments in audio playback technology (specifically the multi-channel SACD) since then now allow for hearing this spectacularly orchestrated work as all involved in its recording conceived it to be heard thanks to Pentatone’s labor of love in re-mastering and re-releasing this recording to market.
