Johann Nepomuk Hummel, a child prodigy and Mozart pupil, was considered in his time one of Europe’s greatest composers and pianists. Composed in the late 1700s, his piano trios, delightful works full of brilliant virtuosity, charm and wit and offered here complete on two discs, are in the classical Viennese style, yet also offer a foretaste of future romantic drama and passion. The instrumental writing is of the highest order for all three instruments.
