Label: Ligia Digital Catalog: LIDI 0201285 Format: CD Liliana Faraon (soprano), Magali Léger (soprano), Marie-Ange Todorovitch (mezzo-soprano), Gilles Ragon (tenor), François Le Roux (baritone), Jean-Louis Haguenauer (piano)Debussy: Complete Songs This album contains what is at the present time the sole and unique complete recording of the mélodies of Claude Debussy that includes the different versions of the individual works, when different versions exist, as well as a number of works that have been recently discovered, some of them unpublished. It proposes a chronological promenade through the mélodies that extends from the first song, composed when Debussy was a student at the Paris Conservatoire, to the last, composed in the midst of the Great War, when Debussy was much diminished by the cancer that would eventually lead to his death in 1918. In all, the album contains 101 titles on 4 CDs; it contains 42 songs more than the previous “complete” recording made in the nineteen-eighties; and it contains 14 songs that are recorded here for the first time. Five French singers were selected both in order to vary the colors of the individual works and in order to respect the tessituras they require. The booklet with the recording includes an historical essay by Denis Herlin, one of world’s leading Debussy scholars, an essay on the mélodies by the celebrated baritone François Le Roux, and a note by the pianist Jean-Louis Haguenauer concerning Debussy’s Blüthner piano, which is featured on this recording. The sung texts are here included in their entirety. Price: $85.98 |
