Jarvi; Tetzlaff; Paris Orchestra

Composed by: Dutilleux, Henri

This recording is the first in a series featuring the Orchestre de Paris and its Music Director Paavo Järvi. The program offers three works by Henri Dutilleux, widely considered the most important French composer of the second half of the 20th century: Sur le même accord ‘Nocturne for violin and orchestra,’ with violinist Christian Tetzlaff, the Symphony No. 1 and Métaboles. Henri Dutilleux (1916-2013) didn’t publish a work he deemed worthy of recognition until he was past thirty (Piano Sonata, op. 1, (1948)). His relatively small œuvre, somewhat like the painstaking Paul Dukas’ before him, is of incredibly high quality. Now in his fourth season as Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris, Paavo Järvi is a stanch supporter of his compatriot Estonian composers, and in 2013 was awarded the Order of the White Star by the President of Estonia for his outstanding contribution to Estonian Culture.
