Pierne / Vierne: Quintets For Piano
Lemelin; Arthur-Leblanc Quartet
Composed by: Pierne; Vierne
As part of the series Musique française : Découvertes 1890-1939, ATMA Classique presents the Piano Quintets of Louis Vierne and Gabriel Pierné. One of about 20 chamber works, Pierne’s Quintette en trois parties Op. 41, in e, for piano and strings was composed 1916-17. Louis Vierne composed his very large-scale quintet in Switzerland during 1917-18. Pianist Stéphane Lemelin directs this discovery series for ATMA Classique. The Quatuor Arthur-LeBlanc, widely recognized as one of Canada's finest string ensembles, is quartet-in-residence at the Université Laval in Quebec City.
