The show proved an instant success and was subsequently transferred to the Fortune Theatre in the West End a little over three weeks later. The show would go on to run for 808 performances before switching to New York and the Golden Theater, where it managed a further 215 performances. Eventually, the show would be performed some 1,700 times between the launch in 1956 and 1967. The album, which features many of the highlights of the show, hit the Top Ten on the UK album charts.
