Myaskovsky: Selected Symphonies
USSR State Symphony Orchestra; Svetlanov; Ivanov
Composed by: Myaskovsky, Nikolai
Melodiya presents a set of selected symphonies by the prolific symphonist Nikolai Myaskovsky, whose 27 symphonies composed over forty years are a sort of a personal diary reflecting a complicated and winding artistic evolutionary path. The set includes six symphonies from the composer’s latter period (1935-50) – Nos. 16, 17, 21, 22, 25 and 27 – performed by the USSR State Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov (the only conductor to record all the symphonies) and his predecessor in the Konstantin Ivanov, one of the major representatives of the Soviet conducting school.
