Bookburners comprises a collection of Montreal-based Nicole Lizée’s works from the past five years, and presenting a number of her fixations and obsessions that have infiltrated the five pieces on this album: a reinterpretation of rave culture, John Cage, Hitchcock, turntablism, iconography, auteur theory, malfunction, crate digging, etc… and their melding with classical, concert, notated music. The album features a cast of stellar musicians from cross Canada and the U.S., including So Percussion, DJ P-Love, Ben Reimer and Stéphane Trétreault. After a decade and a half of composition, her growing forty-work list of commissions is both varied and distinguished. Her music has received performances worldwide in renowned venues and at major music festivals in the U.S. and England. Along the way, official recognition has included receipt of the 2013 Canada Council for the Arts Jules Léger Prize for New Chamber Music.
