Jean-Philippe Rameau’s opera-ballet Les Fêtes de l’Hymen et de l’Amour, in its exploration of Egyptian mythology, contains some of Rameau’s most marvelous musical creations. Blurring more than ever the line between aria and recitative, the composer delivered a concentrated score where lulls are rare and individual sections are linked together with great fluidity. Since 1987 Le Concert Spirituel, together with its founder Hervé Niquet, has become one of the leading exponents across the world in the performance of baroque music on period instruments – notably of French repertoire.
