The fourth volume of audite's complete recording of Edvard Grieg's orchestral works with the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Eivind Aadland conducting, combines the Norwegian national composer’s most popular work with his least known: the glorious warhorse Piano Concerto in A minor, performed here by Herbert Schuch, and the Symphony in C minor (1864). + The concerto evinces the influence of his great model Schumann, combined with evident elements of Norwegian folk music, while the inventive but even more youthful symphony reveals similar influences but hardly any Norwegian inflections.
