Elgar: The Apostles / Hickox
Catalog: CHAN 241-49
A narrative work, The Apostles deals with the calling of the disciples and their experiences of Jesus’ preaching, miracles, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. Although often overshadowed by The Dream of Gerontius, written shortly before, it contains some of Elgar’s most inspired music. Richard Hickox, a true champion of British music, conducts the LSO and Chorus. Alfreda Hodgson and Robert Lloyd feature as Mary Magdalene and Judas, and a young Bryn Terfel is heard as Peter.
