Mendelssohn: Elijah / Hickox

A grand oratorio in two parts, Mendelssohn composed Elijah in the spirit of his baroque predecessors. It tells the story of the stern Old Testament prophet who preached against the idol worship of the Israelite people. This 1989 recording features Willard White in the title role and Rosalind Plowright, Linda Finnie, Arthur Davies, and Jeremy Budd singing the supporting parts. This release, part of the ongoing Richard Hickox Legacy series, features the late conductor leading the LSO and Chorus.
