The founding of the Berlin Philharmonic on the first of May 1882 is annually celebrated with a concert in a culturally significant European city. In 2014 the Europakonzert took place in Berlin itself. Daniel Barenboim, a man who has been associated with the Berlin Philharmonic for 50 years, conducted the concert. On the program were Otto Nicolai’s lively The Merry Wives of Windsor overture, Edward Elgar’s symphonic study Falstaff, and Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony. All this, together with an interview with maestro Barenboim, is packaged in the elegant new Eurokonzert serial design.
