Rudolf Barshai arose in Soviet concert life in the early 1950s, quickly becoming a successful solo violist and ensemble player. However, his thirst for something new led him to create the first-ever Soviet chamber orchestra. He won many well-known musicians over to joint playing, including those who had promising solo careers. The compositions featured on this album are instrumental concertos by Albinoni and Vivaldi, Handel’s concerto grosso and a suite by “Bach’s fortunate rival” Telemann.
