Let No Man Write My Epitaph / Ella Fitzgerald
Label: Analogue Productions
Format: SACD / CD Hybrid
Let No Man Write My Epitaph was a 1960 movie starring Ella Fitzgerald as a singing piano player. For it, she recorded a selection of her greatest hits, backed only by pianist Paul Smith. Many of the songs never made it into the film score, but all were later released on Verve as this companion album. Generally considered one of Ella's greatest recordings, the album hits at a depth of emotional understanding that critics often complained was missing in Ella's reading of jazz lyrics, and once again establishes her as one of the supreme interpreters of the Great American Songbook. Always considered sonically superb, this Super Audio remaster from Analogue Productions presents Ella's classic album in the best possible audio quality.
