The highly influential French music magazine Diapason in France praised the young Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández by saying, "Ferrandez will be one of the best cellists in the future – No: he already is." After winning the prestigious Prix Edmond de Rothschild at the 2013 Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad in Switzerland, he went on to record his concerto debut CD. The disc includes Dvorák’s masterpiece for the instrument, Schumann’s intimate concerto from his last years and Pablo Casals's exquisite transcription of Song of the Birds, a much loved traditional Catalan song that was popular during the Spanish civil war.
