An elusively engimatic figure as a composer, Enriquez de Valderrábano took more than twelve years to finish work on his vihuela collection, "Silva de sirenas" (Valladolid, 1547). His compositions reflect a strong awarenessof vocal polyphony: many of them take their inspiration from motets, villancicos or canciones that derive from different sources. His vihuela duets are the only ones to survive for this instrument and recorded here for the first time.
