Born in Cadiz, Rafael Alberti had to flee Spain after the defeat of the Republican government in 1939. He exiled himself in Argentina where he wrote numerous poems expressing his nostalgia and concern for hsi war-torn country. His Andalusian-sounding verses inspired the composer Enric Palomar to write a suite for chamber orchestra and flamenco voice with echoes of Argentinian music, and which Miguel Poveda interprets with innovative spirit and passion. The poetry of Rafael Alberti is the perfect setting to explore in music what he resolved with literary magic: a deep inner feeling of being from Andalusia that opens itself up to the influences of the new lands and their geography, their people, their outdoors....
