Haydn - Cello Concertos
Jean-Guihen Queyras, violoncello; Freiburger Barokorchester; Petra Müllejans, conductor
Joseph Haydn (1732-1809): Cocnerto for violoncello and orchestra in C major; Concerto for violoncello and orchestra in D major Georg Matthias Monn (1717-1750): Concerto for violoncello, strings and harpsichord
The two Haydn concertos recorded here are pillars of the cello repertoire, and unquestionably the two most accomplished works in their genre from the Viennese Classical era. As to the concerto by Georg Matthias Monn (a major figure of the transition from Baroque to Classicism), it is a remarkable work from the pre-Haydn period.
