Rodrigo: Concerto d'Aranjuez, Fantaisie pour un Gentilhomme, ,

Loreley presents award-winning guitarist Emmanuel Rossfelder in an album of works for guitar and orchestra by Joaquín Rodrigo. The Concierto de Aranjuez is far and away Rodrigo's best-known work, and its success established his reputation as one of the most significant Spanish composers of the twentieth century. It was inspired by the gardens at Palacio Real de Aranjuez, the spring resort palace and gardens built by Philip II in the16th century. It attempts to transport the listener to another place and time through the evocation of the sounds of nature. The concerto is paired with the Fantasía para un gentilhombre, written in 1954 for the guitarist Andrés Segovia. The piece is based on themes from short dances for solo guitar by the 17th century Spanish composer Gaspar Sanz. In both works, Rossfelder is accompanied by the Orchestre d'Auvergne under the baton of Arie Van Beek.
