Stone Records is delighted to announce its newest Oxford Lieder Live release, the fifth disc in the first-ever complete edition of the songs of Hugo Wolf (1860-1903). This disc, recorded live at a recital in Oxford in 2012, includes many rarely-heard songs and a world première recording.
Over the course of the next year, Oxford Lieder is continuing to promote a series of concerts encompassing every song by Hugo Wolf, all of which will be recorded and released on the Stone Records label, in a series of a dozen discs.
This CD features Wolf's settings of Heine and Reinick, as well as his four settings of German translations of English poetry.
The singers on this disc are all prize-winning Lieder singers. Together with the festival's artistic director, Sholto Kynoch, at the piano, they provide world-class interpretations of these wonderful songs. The booklet features translations and detailed notes by Richard Stokes, a leading authority on the interpretation of Lieder.
