Georg & Franz Benda : Flute Sonatas
Label: HUNGAROTON Catalog: HCD32671 Format: CD Franz (František, 1709–86) and Georg Anton (Jiři Antonín, 1722–95) Benda were scions of a Bohemian family of musicians active in Germany and Austria, who went on to become important figures on the early Classical musical scene. The careers of both men was linked with the court of Frederick the Great. This recording presents six flute sonatas with basso continuo provided by harpsichord and cello, as neither the works’ titles nor the scores make mention of accompanying instrument(s). These sonatas represent a transition between the Baroque suite and the three-movement Classical sonata. ![]() |
