Swing De Paris - Highlights
Label: Chant du Monde Catalog: 2742227 Format: CD Reinhardt, DjangoComposed by: Django Reinhardt The ‘Django Reinhardt, Paris Swing’ exhibition which the Cité de la Musique in Paris is dedicating to him (Oct 2012- January 2013) aims to celebrate the genius of this artist who provided our city, which was then an extraordinary hotbed of creativity, with its ideal soundtrack. A gypsy converted to the religion of American hot jazz, Django was one of the most emblematic personalities among the profusion of artists from all over who livened up the capital during the finest hours of the interwar period. The first major soloist to come out of Europe, his influence over the status of the guitar in jazz music was considerable. This CD features the most important musical highlights of the exhibition; in total 24 tracks which illustrate the different stages this artist's career went through up until his sudden death at the age of 43. He made a lot of music in this short time! Django has now joined the exclusive circle of jazzmen known only by their first name. Django was jazz personified every bit as much as they were. He is our jazz, our blues, he is Paris Swing. |
