Bore, Matthieu

Composed by: Matthieu Boré

Jelly Roll Morton wrote "Any music can be played in Jazz, since you know how to do it. No matter what you play but the way you play it". This famous quotation characterizes the Music of Matthieu Boré and the direction of the repertoire of his new album: Roots. With ROOTS Matthieu Boré proposes us a subtle repertoire compounds of original works and pop standards he decided to rework and record in a simple and personal way. The title of the album makes more reference to the sound than in songs that composes it. Matthieu Boré wishes to work the authenticity of the sound. As examples, Matthieu reworks diverse hits of the 80s as Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (George Michael), Girls & Boys (Prince), Sign Your Name (Terence Trent d'Arby) and Yeh Yeh (Matt Bianco). All these songs were published when he was a teenager and are a part of his youth, but at the same time Matthieu Boré was more focused on other artists as e Ray Charles or Otis Redding. Then with ROOTS the idea and direction was to rework all those songs of the 80s with a very specific Rhythm'n Blues and Soul sounds of the 60's being at the same time very close to the spirit of the original songs that Matthieu wrote in the spirit of Stax or Atlantic Recordings. On this subject, Matthieu Boré recently declared to TSF Radio: "During my youth I used to listen to Ray Charles and Otis Redding. I was in love with these artists. Both superstars, they curled the perfection. Their music was simple to understand, they were able to pass on an enormous emotion with only few note".
