Stravinsky: Le Rossignol; Delage: Quatre Poemes Hindus, Berceuse Phoque

Stravinsky’s short, charming opera Le rossignol is rarely performed or recorded. Written in 1913-14 after the Rite of Spring, its libretto, based on The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen, was co-written by the composer and Stepan Mitussov. The opera’s first performance was given in May 1914 at the Palais Garnier in Paris in a production by Sergei Diaghilev. This disc featuring André Cluytens, back in print after a long hiatus, presents the work’s first ever commercial recording, made in mono in 1955.
