Stone Records is delighted to announce the first CD in a two-disc series that will comprise the first complete recording of the songs of Havergal Brian (1876-1972) for voice and piano.
Brian is best known for his vast Gothic symphony, and in fact wrote over thirty symphonies, but this disc shows another facet to his complex artistic character, with songs ranging from the lyrically whimsical to the angularly tormented.
This fi rst volume includes nine première recordings, with the repertoire consisting of Elizabethan and contemporary poets, some of whom were friends of the composer.

"Baritone Mark Stone has it all: a terrific technique, theatrical presence and a voice guaranteed to tingle bits of your spine never tingled before." Classic FM magazine
"Sholto Kynoch steers the performances with secure expressive playing".
