Ma con qual core (Cantata for the leaving of Faustina Bordoni Hasse from Neaples) Alessandro Scarlatti: Fille, tu parti? Oh Dio! (Cantata wrongly attributed to Vinci) The Italian chamber cantata is one of the most interesting and less known genres of the 18th century's vocal music. In particular, the repertoire produced in Naples offers the opportunity to get into the indoor intimate sound of a city considered one of the capitals of European music. This reputation was due to the large number of eminent composers trained in the Neapolitan Conservatoires and to the high level of the music scores circulating everywhere in Europe, in particular operas and cantatas. The cantatas by Leonardo Vinci (1690?-1730) offer a perfect paradigm of the typical product of a Neapolitan composer during his career. Originally from the south of the Kingdom (born in Strongoli, in Calabria), at the end of his studies with Gaetano Greco - a pupil of Francesco Provenzale - at the Conservatorio dei Poveri di Gesù Cristo, Vinci became Maestro di Cappella of the Prince of Sansevero Don Paulo di Sangro. Composers like Handel were influenced by Vinci's art, but his brilliant career was cut short by his premature death by poisoning under still unexplained circumstances. Price: $27.98 |
