Concerto for Flute and Harp Violin Concerto Symphony No.1, Variations on a Theme of Haydn

Between September 1949 and November 1961, the great conductor Ferenc Fricsay made 180 recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, conducting the Berlin Philharmonic, the RIAS Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. This two disc set from Tahra features live recordings from the 1950s and 1960s. The repertoire includes Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with Yehudi Menuhin, Brahms' Symphony No.1 and the popular Variations on a Theme of Haydn. Fricsay conducts the RIAS Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. The booklet includes an autobiographical text in which Fricsay recounts his youth and his beginnings as a conductor and the transcript of an interview he gave in Paris in 1958.
